Deal done: Volantis Groep
08-07-2025

Deal done | Aeternus acted as the advisor to Volantis Groep in the sale to listed company Sweco

Volantis Groep has been acquired by Sweco, Europe’s leading architecture and engineering firm. Volantis’ 150 experts will join Sweco Netherlands’ 2,200 architects, engineers and consultants and 22,000 international colleagues. This strengthens Sweco’s position as market leader.

After years of strategic guidance and M&A advisory to Volantis Group and several buy and build acquisitions (including the acquisition of Architecten aan de Maas, the acquisitions and mergers that led to Volantis Architects, and the acquisition of SafeConsult), Aeternus has now advised on the sale of the entire Volantis Group to Sweco.

Volantis is a multidisciplinary consulting organisation that realises new projects and innovates existing buildings, processes and production environments. The company is active in sectors such as healthcare, industry, residential construction and sustainable energy. For Sweco, the acquisition of Volantis Group fits in with its strategy to further strengthen its position with experts in various expertise areas, including circularity and the energy transition, based on an integrated disciplinary approach.

‘We are proud to be a part of Sweco. This will increase our effectiveness for clients and for society. Together, we can make a greater impact with our knowledge, commitment and ownership. Sweco will soon be gaining strong teams in the fields of installation consulting, circularity, healthcare real estate, industrial construction and innovative, sustainable architecture.’

Jan Houwen, CEO Volantis Groep

The shareholders of Volantis Groep were advised by Bas van Soest, Maartje Korten, Bas van den Broek and Tim Brekelmans of Aeternus. In this deal, they worked hand-in-hand with the accountancy and tax experts of Newtone.

‘It is special to be able to advise such a long-standing customer in a deal like this. The process was unique due to the customer relationship and deal structure. First, five entities were restructured, followed by the complete deal with Sweco. It is truly deserved and well-earned for all parties involved who have now sold. They have built a wonderful company and this result is entirely in line with that.’

Bas van Soest, Partner at Aeternus

We congratulate Volantis Group, Sweco and everyone involved and wish them every success in the future.

“An M&A transaction or making a valuation is in many cases a complex process. Often this is a “once-in-a-lifetime” process for the owner of the company. An analyst can lose himself in complex analysis, jargon and other complicated matters. That is why I see it as my task, and that also gives me satisfaction in my job, to bring complex matters back to the core. I like to take the entrepreneur along in a concise story and a high-quality valuation, which justifies the value of the company. I am convinced that this ensures a pleasant cooperation with the entrepreneur and will ultimately ensure the best result”.
