Deal done | Aeternus acted as the advisor to Matro Group in the sale to listed Relais Group

The Finnish Relais Group is acquiring a 70% majority interest in the Belgian Matro Group. Aeternus advised shareholder Glenn Gils in the search for a strategic partner. The deal accelerates the international growth of Matro’s own Nedking brand and strengthens Relais’ position in Europe.

The partnership between Matro Group and Strands, part of Relais Group, goes back many years. This acquisition formalises their relationship and paves the way for deeper collaboration to better serve customers across Europe. It provides Matro with access to the expertise and economies of scale of a listed group. For Relais, it secures a strong foothold in continental Europe. Both companies aim to grow together in new segments and markets. Glenn Gils will remain involved as a minority shareholder and Managing Director, ensuring continuity and supporting further growth.

“It feels great to partner up with Strands and Relais Group. We have worked together for many years, and now becoming part of the same group, we can further develop our cooperation and partnership. I am confident that this will be a great thing for all stakeholders; employees, customers, and suppliers.”

Glenn Gils, Managing Director and owner of Matro Group

The Matro Group shareholders were advised through this acquisition by Rob Woodford, Maurice Koopmans and Tim Brekelmans of Aeternus.

“We have known Glenn for several years from a previous acquisition, and therefore it was a great opportunity for us to advise him in this strategic move. The international scope of the company, with branches in multiple countries and a foreign listed buyer, made the process even more complex and challenging. That is exactly why it is even more rewarding that the deal has been completed successfully.”

Rob Woodford, Director Corporate Finance at Aeternus

Aeternus wishes Matro Group and Relais Group every success with their further growth.
